A new hints that an iconic Spider-Man character will return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Potential spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ahead.
If Spider-Man: No Way Home introduced audiences to the possibilities of the multiverse then Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will showcase the chaos of tampering with the universe. Both films are inherently tied to one another as the Tom Holland threequel directly segues into Benedict Cumberbatch’s second solo outing. In fact, the post-credits sequence for No Way Home was a trailer for In The Multiverse of Madness, so it makes sense that both films share some of the same DNA.
Speculation has suggested for quite some time that Tobey Maguire will be reprising his role as Spider-Man for the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel. The speculation isn’t out of the question as Maguire’s rendition of the character was directed by Sam Raimi, who is helming Doctor Strange’s upcoming multiversal bonanza. Seeing as Maguire reprised his role in last month’s critically-acclaimed No Way Home, precedent suggests that a future return is entirely possible – and according to a new photo, a return could already be in motion.
Mariana Torres, who voices Wanda Maximoff in Marvel’s Portuguese dubs, shared a photo with Manolo Rey, who has voiced Tobey Maguire. Torres’ caption writes: “Good things are coming.” With dubbing on the Doctor Strange sequel underway, it’s entirely possible that Rey is returning to voice Tobey Maguire’s webhead.
Benedict Cumberbatch last appeared as Doctor Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here is the synopsis:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Jamie Foxx, with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire.
