Doctor Strange 2 is set to explore Stephen Strange’s post-Avengers state of mind after the last few action-packed years he’s had.

It’s hard to believe but Stephen Strange made his first appearance in 2016, only to be thrust into a pivotal role in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, before being dusted away with the knowledge that there was only one way the team could defeat the Mad Titan. With barely a reprieve, he was snapped back to Earth to fight off Thanos’ army in Endgame. It’s safe to say that Doctor Strange has had an intense few years as a sorcerer and probably needs a break.

Doctor Strange 2 writer Michael Waldron spoke with SYFY Wire to discuss Stephen Stranger’s future, and how the last few chaotic years have shaped the surgeon- turned-sorcerer’s mindset.

“‘How can you go deeper into the character of Stephen Strange?’ This is a guy who’s been through a lot in the last several years. What effect does that have on somebody so powerful? That’s exciting. And beyond all that, he’s just a great adventurer — a great adventure hero you just like to watch kick ass.”

Waldron also went on to discuss how exciting it is to have Sam Raimi, the director behind Evil Dead and the original Spider-Man trilogy, on board to direct the sequel.

“It’s a thrill ride with heart like you’d expect from a Sam Raimi superhero movie. Sam’s a genius and the way he moves the camera is really exciting and he’s not afraid to take chances. I think it’s gonna be a really cool experience for everybody.”
