While some may argue that last year’s Doctor Strange was a “by the numbers” Marvel movie, the film has had quite a successful run. The public loved the movie and it was also the most successful domestic solo character launch for Marvel since Iron Man, so it is safe to say the Sorcerer Supreme has his sequel guaranteed.

While in a phone interview with CinemaBlend, the film’s director, Scott Derrickson, was asked if he would like to come back and direct a potential Doctor Strange 2. This was his response.

‘Yeah, I very much want to do it, for sure. I love this character. I love the possibilities of the world. Making the movie was the best creative experience of my life, by far, and I love Marvel. I love those guys. I really do. They’re artists. They are egoless, and most importantly, they love the movie. They love movies more than anything. So I hope so, but there hasn’t been… I know that they’ve got their hands full right now, and this movie hasn’t even finished its run. It opens in Japan on Friday.’

It would definitely be great to see Derrickson do another Doctor Strange movie, but since Marvel’s slate seems to be pretty much full until 2020, it might be a while until we have news about a sequel.

If you didn’t have the chance to catch the Academy Award nominated movie for Best Visual Effects; Doctor Stranges DVD and Blu-ray release date is set for February 28, and it will also be available on Digital HD from Amazon Video and iTunes on February 14, 2017.
