‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Saw Avengers Tower Disappear

Marvel's most iconic landmark vanished!

Avengers Tower Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Marvel MCU

Eagle-eyed viewers have noticed that Avengers Tower was mysteriously absent from its usual MCU location in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Avengers Tower has been an MCU staple since the release of The Avengers in 2012. Originally built as Stark Tower by Tony Stark, the building was redesigned and repurposed as the Avengers’ headquarters at the end of the movie. It was seen in use in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, which also saw the team relocate to a new facility in Upstate New York. 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming would confirm that Tony had sold Avengers Tower to new owners, though those new owners are yet to be revealed.

Doctor Strange’s Disappearing Act

While countless fan theories about Avengers Tower’s new owners abound, some fans may be wondering whether Marvel would rather we just forget about the building altogether now it is no longer under the Avengers’ ownership. It certainly seems to have slipped Marvel Studios’ mind as of late, as the skyscraper was notably absent from both Hawkeye on Disney Plus and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Avengers Tower is located on the real-life site of the Metlife building in New York. Avengers Tower has therefore historically replaced this building in previous Marvel projects. However, the Metlife building was visible in both Hawkeye and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is probably just an oversight on Marvel’s part, but it seems odd this was missed when the studio has usually been dilligent in ensuring Avengers Tower makes it into the background of MCU projects.

Previously, Marvel’s Netflix series had also failed to replace the Metlife building with Avengers Tower. However, as the canonicity of those shows to the MCU was in question at the time – and as they were being produced by Marvel Television, rather than Marvel Studios – this was less surprising than the tower’s absence from a mainstream MCU movie like the Doctor Strange sequel.
