Does ‘Doctor Strange’ Tease Captain Marvel?

Captain Marvel

Marvel is known for leaving in teasers and Easter eggs inside every one of their movies. Since they all tie-in to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange is no exception to this.

If you haven’t yet seen the film, beware of spoilers below.

Recently, director and co-writer Scott Derrickson teased a possible Captain Marvel link within the MCU. The Easter egg in question appears near the beginning of Doctor Strange, right before the doctor loses control of his car. Strange is going through several patient histories and deciding whether or not to take on their cases.

That’s when he comes across a patient who’s been struck by lightning. Is this a reference to Captain Marvel? Not necessarily, because being struck by lightning isn’t Captain Marvel’s origin story in the comics, but it could definitely be the case here given that her origin story will be changed for the movie.

What’s most intriguing isn’t even the fact that the woman is struck by lightning, but the fact that she has an implant in her brain. When Derrickson was asked whether or not that scene was teasing Captain Marvel, he only had this to say:

“Remember that Brittany Murphy movie where she goes ‘I’ll never tell…'”

So he’s not denying or confirming anything. But since he’s not denying it then I’d bet that it was, in fact, an Easter egg for the upcoming movie.

Captain Marvel will star Brie Larson as the title superhero. The movie, unfortunately, won’t be out until 2019.

What do you think of this teaser? Do you believe it to be a nod to Captain Marvel? Let us know in the comments below!

What actually makes Dr. Strange go off the road? It happened so fast, I didn’t catch the actual circumstances. Did he just lose control, or did someone swerve into his lane?

    • Chris W

I would imagine he just hit a wet spot in the road and spun out due to his 2 wheel drive. Let that be a lesson to you children, drive trucks like a real man, not those silly italian tin cans.

    • Steve Steve

He drifts to his right while looking at his console while speeding and attempting to pass another vehicle. His rear tire collides with the front end of the other vehicle and sends him hurtling down the cliff.

I thought it was a fantastic on screen car crash. It shows that if you are going high speeds and take your eyes off the road for a split second you can miss something.
