Star Wars: Episode IX is currently in production right now, and along with the returning ensemble cast comes a few new additions to the galaxy far, far away. One of those new additions is Lost and Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan.
Monaghan, who is friends with director J.J. Abrams and has collaborated with him in the past obviously can’t reveal what character he is playing. Besides, given the nature of Star Wars productions – especially with Abrams at the helm, secrecy is going to be key. But Monaghan recently appeared on the Distraction Pieces podcast to give a hint at his screentime and tease fans a bit with what to expect from the script:
[Director] J.J. [Abrams] is a friend of mine and he said to me that at some point I’d get the opportunity to read the script. [He told me], ‘Just be aware of the fact that there are massive sequences in Act Two, there are massive sequences in Act Three but because we’re shooting Act One first, I’ve put you in there and you seem to not be around as much in Act Two and Act Three but that’s because that’s what we’re doing first so I want you here, I want you invested. So read the script but just know there won’t be long until there’ll be a re-draft of those things and we’ll see you a little bit more’. So I read it, and the script is amazing and obviously there isn’t a lot I can say.
It is only a matter of time before Lucasfilm finally gives fans a glimpse at what to expect from the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga. In the mean time, let’s continue the fun of speculation when it comes to what Monaghan and the rest of the newcomers to the franchise are going to bring to Episode IX.
Monaghan is not the only new addition to the primary ensemble cast of the Sequel Trilogy in Episode IX. He is also joined by newcomers Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell and Matt Smith.
