Last October, the news broke that award-winning artist and actor Donald Glover had been chosen to portray a sprightlier version of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars movie, which will focus on the eventful youth of fan favourite, Han Solo. The film, which is slated for a May release date next year, will begin filming very soon – but according to an interview with Sci Fi Now, Donald Glover still hasn’t seen the script.

Donald is preparing for the role by cutting down on fast food and hiking to get into shape. Other than that, there’s not much else he can do, as he has yet to see the script for the film, which is shrouded in secrecy.

“It’s like an owl flies through your window and gives you a script; that’s how quiet and confidential it is,” he joked.

During the interview, Donald Glover also spoke about stepping into the shoes of the original actor to make Lando stand out on the big screen: Billy Dee Williams. That hardly seems like a simple task, especially since the character has been held close to fans’ hearts since his debut in The Empire Strikes Back, but Donald Glover has a way to make the role his own:

“I’m not Billy Dee Williams; I am not that cool. I don’t think anyone is really, but I just had to make it believable. I had to do my own ‘cool’.”

Donald Glover will join Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke in the untitled Han Solo anthology film, which is set to premiere on May 25th 2018. The film is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
