Drax Is ‘Blowing People’s Minds’ In ‘Guardians Vol. 2’ Test Screenings

Guardians Vol. 2

Yesterday was former WWE Superstar and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Dave Bautista’s birthday. To celebrate the occasion, director James Gunn took to his Facebook page today to wish him a happy birthday, and in doing so, he also shared a bit of praise for the actor.

According to Gunn, the response to Bautista’s character Drax in early Guardians Vol. 2 test screenings has been pretty positive. You can check out Gunn’s full post here, but Gunn’s quote regarding the reaction that the character is getting is as follows:

He’s been blowing people’s minds in our early screenings of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – exponentially increasing the raw emotion and humor he displayed in the first movie. I couldn’t be more proud of having fought for him to play Drax four and a half years ago.

While most of the talk coming off of the latest Guardians Vol. 2 trailer for the Marvel sequel has been about the adorable Baby Groot, Drax has been a major highlight as well. Bautista never impressed me much as a wrestler, but I have grown to love him as this character. His performance as Drax was eye-opening for me, as far as what he is capable of as an actor, and I’m super happy to hear that we can expect more of the same kind of thing in the second installment.

“Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.”

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.

  • Max Irons

He’s already the best character in vol.1 though.

    • Axxell

You’re right; he did great in Vol 1. Can’t wait to see him outdo himself.

  • Matches Malone

Not surprising, based on the fact he stole that 2nd trailer from even Baby Groot
