Another day, another unbelievable casting announcement for Legendary’s upcoming Dune remake. This time they went and added David Dastmalchian.

The news comes to us hot off the presses of Deadline, who is reporting that David Dastmalchian is slated to play Piter De Vries. The site refers to the character as a person who is trained to be as smart as a computer.

David Dastmalchian has one of those faces you never forget but a name you can never remember (he would like you to know that his name is pronounced “Da-Small-Chin”). The actor recently appeared in such films as Netflix’s own Bird Box and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. He also made an impressionable appearance in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, where he played an escaped convict tortured by Harvey Dent after he made the transition over to Two-Face.

The upcoming Dune film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve who co-wrote the script along with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. Villeneuve has made a name for himself in the industry after helming such critical darlings as Prisoners, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049.

David Dastmalchian joins what has quickly become one of the most impressive rosters of on-screen talent in recent memory, which already includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem. Legendary acquired the film and television rights to Frank Herbert’s novel in November 2016 with Denis Villeneuve officially signing on to helm a feature film reboot in February 2017. Villeneuve has described the reboot as a dream project.

The project won’t mark the first time that Dune has received a live-action adaptation. David Lynch directed a Dune film that was released in 1984. It was met with polarizing reviews but has since gained cult status. The 2000 Dune mini-series, meanwhile, remains one of the highest-rated programs on the Sci-Fi channel.

Dune is currently set to be released on November 20th, 2020.
