The latest episode of Peacemaker features a reference to Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam.

James Gunn’s Peacemaker is expanding the DC Extended Universe one newspaper story at a time. HBO Max is currently home to Peacemaker, the solo series based on John Cena’s unhinged patriotic “hero” from The Suicide Squad. The series has been praised for its wit, action sequences, and references to the larger DCEU. Unlike other projects, Peacemaker hasn’t shied away from its place in the franchise and continually references iconic characters like Aquaman and Batman.

While all eyes are currently on John Cena’s first season of Peacemaker, DC is subtly teasing Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming stint as Black Adam. The long-gestating project from Johnson has been in the works for over a decade. With filming wrapped up, Johnson’s DC debut is set to hit cinemas this summer. To get fans ready for the inevitable change in the hierarchy of power in the DC universe, a reference to Black Adam can be seen in the latest episode of Peacemaker.

As spotted by a user on r/DC_Cinematic, A police officer can be seen reading a newspaper, which sports a headline that features the words “Intergang” and “the nation of Kahndaq”. Intergang is best known as a criminal organization that has arms supplied by the New Gods of Apokolips. Kahndaq on the other hand is the land that Black Adam rules over. Now, all we need to see is John Cena’s Peacemaker and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam duke it out, just like they use to in their old WWE days.

Here is the synopsis for James Gunn’s Peacemaker:

PEACEMAKER explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of executive producer James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it!

Peacemaker was created by James Gunn, who wrote all the episodes and directed five of them. The first season of the HBO Max series will consist of eight episodes, with Brad Anderson, Jody Hill, and Rosemary Rodriguez also directing episodes. Clint Mansell and Kevin Kiner also composed the DC show’s score.

The HBO Max series stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.

Peacemaker is now streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes dropping every Thursday. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding James Gunn’s upcoming projects, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
