Dwayne Johnson Returns To ‘Fast And Furious’ Franchise After ‘Black Adam’ Tanks

Luke Hobbs is back!

Dwayne Johnson Fast and Furious

In an unexpected turn of events, Dwayne Johnson will be making a highly-anticipated comeback to Universal’s globally renowned Fast and Furious series. The development comes on the heels of the lukewarm reception to his recent DC Universe venture Black Adam, as reported by TheWrap.

A wrestler-turned-actor, Dwayne Johnson first joined the Fast and Furious world in 2011 with Fast Five, playing the character of Luke Hobbs. The beloved actor had previously turned down an invitation from co-star Vin Diesel to be part of Fast X, amidst rumors of a simmering feud between the two muscular icons.

Dwayne Johnson’s Fast and Furious return materializes after his superhero movie Black Adam fell short of box office expectations. Despite a respectable gross of $393.3 million, Black Adam‘s performance was deemed underwhelming in comparison to other recent superhero blockbusters. As such, Teth-Adam won’t be featured in the upcoming DC Universe plans orchestrated by celebrated creators James Gunn and Peter Safran.

As the tenth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast X is set to be a thrilling continuation of the high-octane action that audiences have come to love. The franchise has become a cultural phenomenon, grossing over $5 billion worldwide, and it shows no signs of slowing down.

The people behind Fast X

Louis Leterrier is directing Fast X, working from a script by Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau. Leterrier replaced Lin, who stepped down from his post as director over creative differences. Despite his exit from the role, Lin is still credited as a producer alongside Vin Diesel, Neal H. Moritz, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Joe Roth, Clayton Townsend and Samantha Vincent.

The cast of Fast X features Fast and Furious veterans Vin Diesen, Michelle Rodriguez, John Cena, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, Cardi B, Helen Mirren, Jason Statham and Charlize Theron. Franchise newcomers include Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson and Rita Moreno.

Fast X races into theaters on May 19, 2023. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the Universal series and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
