Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle proved to be one of the more surprising hits of 2017, with the Dwayne Johnson film ultimately earning $962.1 million at the worldwide box office. It was not long before Sony announced a sequel with Dwayne Johnson and his co-stars set to reprise their respective roles.
Based on the children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg, the Jumanji franchise has followed the misadventures of characters who find themselves plagued by a magical game. The 1995 film starred Robin Williams in the lead role and followed the book’s story of wild jungle animals invading the real world. The Dwayne Johnson sequel updated the concept to follow a group of teens who are transported to the world of Jumanji through a video game.
Here’s the official synopsis for Jumanji: The Next Level:
In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect. The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.
Directed by Jake Kasdan from a script written by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, the Jumanji sequel stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, Danny Glover, and Nick Jonas.
The third Jumanji film will be released in theaters on December 13, 2019. Stay tuned for more updates on the movie.
