Dwayne Johnson has shared a new image of himself as the animal-loving hero who is the world’s only hope in the upcoming video game adaptation of 1986 Midway arcade game Rampage.
In the film, Johnson plays Primatologist Davis Okoye, the best friend to George, a highly intelligent ape who is genetically altered after an experiment goes wrong resulting in the beast going on a rampage along with similarly altered predators. The original game took players across the United States as they destroyed key landmarks while trying to survive an onslaught from military forces as they controlled a giant ape, a giant wolf, or a giant lizard.
The new photo shared by Johnson reveals Okoye taking out a soldier likely in an effort to protect his best friend George. You can check it out below.
The film also stars Naomi Harris, Joe Manganiello, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, Breanne Hil, P.J. Byrne, Jack Quaid and Matt Gerald as well as Malin Akerman and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Here’s the official synopsis:
Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
