Ed Skrein Joins James Cameron’s ‘Alita: Battle Angel’

Ed Skrein

After filling the role of the typical British villain in the Deadpool movie as Ajax – otherwise known as Francis – Ed Skrein has joined another big movie: Alita: Battle Angel. The upcoming sci-fi movie is being produced by James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar) and is set to be directed by Robert Rodriquez (Machete, From Dusk till Dawn).

Alita: Battle Angel is an ambitious adaptation of the popular manga graphic novels, and Skrein is said to be playing a heavy, joining a cast which already boasts Rosa Salazar (Insurgent), Christoph Waltz (Spectre, Django Unchained), and Jackie Earl Haley (Watchmen, Dark Shadows).

Set in the 26th Centrury, Alita follows a female cyborg (Salazar) that is discovered in a scrapyard by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, the woman becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals. Skrein will play Zapan, a villainous cyborg who’s in possession of a weapon called the Damascus blade.

The movie is set to start in Austin some time in October.

Skrein starred in 2015’s The Transporter Refueled, but is best known for co-starring opposite Ryan Reynolds in Fox’s surprise hit, Deadpool. He’s currently shooting In Darkness alongside Natalie Dormer and Emily Ratajkowski.
