The team behind the latest Planet of the Apes movie
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is being directed by Wes Ball, the man behind the three Maze Runner movies starring Dylan O’Brien. The script was written by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison.
In addition to Eka Darville and Kevin Durand, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is also set to star Owen Teague, Freya Allen and Peter Macon. Filming begins this month for a 2024 release.
The first film in the Planet of the Apes franchise was based on a novel by Pierre Boule. It was released in 1968 and followed Charlton Heston as an astronaut who crash-landed on a planet ruled by intelligent apes, only to discover he was actually on Earth several years after it had been devastated by a nuclear war. The highly-successful film resulted in several Planet of the Apes sequels, a TV series and 2001 remake by Tim Burton before Fox rebooted the franchise with a trilogy that started with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, featuring Andy Serkis.
