Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently criticized the male characters in Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was a massive hit for Amazon over the weekend with the series bringing in 25 million viewers in its first 24 hours on the Prime Video streaming service. While many tuned into the groundbreaking series, there’s been ongoing controversy surrounding it on social media.

While critics have viewed The Rings of Power fairly, the audience reaction has been mixed with review bombing taking place on Rotten Tomatoes. The criticism surrounding The Lord of the Rings series has ranged from some believing it’s not honoring Tolkien’s original works to bringing out racism due to the show’s diverse cast.

Musk Shares His Thoughts

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has now weighed into the new Lord of the Rings series and recently shared his thoughts on Twitter. The controversial figure fell into the camp of the series not being faithful to Tolkien’s work and went on to write that “almost every male character so far is a coward or a jerk or both” while Galadriel is the only one who is “brave, smart and nice.”

Here is the synopsis for The Rings of Power:

“This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”

Amazon Studios is producing The Rings of Power in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are serving as showrunners and executive producers on the series.

The ensemble for the show consists of Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.
