For so long, The Flash has been the epicenter when it comes to time travel and exploring other Earths within the shared world that is the Arrowverse. It’s through The Flash that we got our first connection to Supergirl’s world of Earth-38, the introduction of Earth-2, and the idea of the multiverse in general. This isn’t even getting into the time travel shenanigans on Legends of Tomorrow as well. So there are many other worlds that we haven’t seen yet, and the “Elseworlds” crossover has teased that an even bigger crisis could be on the way.
During the Arrow portion of last night’s “Elseworlds” event, John Wesley Shipp’s Barry Allen arrived from Earth-90 to speak with the heroes, as well as Team Flash and Team Arrow, to warn them about the Monitor, who goes by Mar Novu on Earth-90, and travels across the multiverse to test different Earths because he believes that a crisis is coming.
Because Earth-90 has already been ravaged by the Monitor, Barry joins the team of Supergirl, Flash, and Green Arrow just as the Monitor informs them that someone far more powerful than him will be coming soon. Now that could be a whole host of potential villains in the DC Universe. Well, we can rule out Darkseid for one. That and he’s probably be restricted to Supergirl’s world for the moment. But there’s the possibility of the Anti-Monitor, and that would no doubt be a powerful threat for a potential “Crisis On Infinite Earths” event.
As far as scale and scope go, the Arrowverse crossovers have grown exponentially since “Flash vs Arrow,” and “Elseworlds” is by and large the biggest of them so far. While this crossover may not involve the Legends, the Monitor’s arrival and the tease of DC’s Crisis On Infinite Earths eclipses what was done during the “Crisis On Earth-X” crossover from last year. But will that ultimately come to pass?
More than that, just how many other Earths are there in The CW’s DC multiverse? What other help could be brought in to combat an even bigger threat than the Monitor? Smallville’s world? Maybe Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen pops out of the speed force from the DC Extended Universe to lend a hand? What do you think? And do you think there could be further setup during the final portion of the “Elseworlds” event? Let us know in the comments below.
The “Elseworlds” crossover event concludes tonight with a new episode of Supergirl at 8 P.M. on the CW.
