Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is avoiding House of the Dragon.

Emilia Clarke became a breakout star due to her work as Daenerys Targaryen in the hit HBO drama Game of Thrones, but the actress won’t watch its prequel series House of the Dragon, which revolves around the ancestors of her fan-favorite character. While doing the press rounds for new movie, titled The Pod Generation, Clarke told Variety that she still hasn’t watched the series.

“It’s too weird. I’m so happy it’s happening. I’m over the moon about all the awards… I just can’t do it,” Clarke told Variety at Sundance. “It’s so weird. It’s so strange. It’s kind of like someone saying, ‘You want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? Want to go to that school reunion?’ That’s how it feels. I’m avoiding it.”

House of the Dragon was named the Best Drama series of 2022 during the recent 80th Golden Globe Awards, beating out the likes of Better Call Saul, The Crown, Ozark and Severance. Game of Thrones never managed to win the award during its eight-season run on HBO.

When does House of the Dragon return to HBO?

A second season of House of the Dragon is currently in development at HBO. The second season begins filming early next year and won’t arrive until 2024 at the earliest, according to recent comments from Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max.
