New photos from the set of Marvel Studios’ The Eternals suggest the film will venture to Babylon.
Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 line-up includes The Eternals, a feature centered on the eponymous extra-terrestrial beings said to be set thousands of years before any previous MCU films. With production on The Eternals currently underway, new sets are being constructed in the Canary Islands and photos taken at the location reveal what appears to be a Babylonian gate.
The Eternals set photos reveal a massive blue gate decorated with gold lions and snakes, indicating it is intended to be a replica of Babylon’s Ishtar Gate. If true, the set photos would lend credence to the idea of The Eternals being set in the distant past.

In the comics, the Eternals are a fictional evolutionary offshoot of humanity who possess superpowers and longer lifespans than normal humans. Created by the Celestials over a million years ago, the superpowered beings were the result of genetic experiments that led to the creation of two divergent races: The Eternals and The Deviants.
Often defending Earth from their monstrous counterparts, the Eternals became embroiled in a civil war amongst themselves over whether or not they should conquer the other races. One faction was led by Kronos and the other by his warlike brother named Uranos, with Kronos’ side ultimately winning the conflict while Uranos and his followers were exiled.
Directed by Chloé Zhao from a script written by Matthew K. Firpo and Ryan Firpo, The Eternals stars Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, and Barry Keoghan.
The Eternals will be released in theaters on November 6, 2020.
