Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy talked about the “emotional” reunion between Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
After those who grew up with the Star Wars original trilogy got to see Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher return for the sequels, fans of the prequels are now getting a massive reunion of their own with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen back for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
This time around, Hayden Christensen will be Darth Vader while Ewan McGregor will play the old hermit on Tatooine. Obi-Wan Kenobi has been wrapped for some time now with Star Wars fans anxiously awaiting a first look at the series. In an interview with Empire, Kathleen Kennedy discussed how emotional it was for McGregor and Christensen to work together again:
“The thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited. They hadn’t seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realising how important Star Wars was to each of them. It was the beginning of their careers.”
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series has been described as a special event series for Disney Plus, and details on the upcoming Star Wars series are being hidden away on Tatooine. Still, we do know the series will feature a rematch between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and before their final confrontation in A New Hope.
Directed by Deborah Chow from Joby Harold’s scripts, Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is expected to hit Disney Plus in 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming Star Wars series, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
