Ewan McGregor reiterated that the Star Wars series centered on Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin production early next year.

Lucasfilm’s plans for the Star Wars franchise involve multiple television projects for Disney plus, including a series centered on Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. While fans were excited about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, many were concerned about the future of the Ewan McGregor show following reports of Lucasfilm’s decision to delay production to improve the quality of the scripts.

During an interview on Good Morning America, Ewan McGregor assured fans that the Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin filming early next year. As Ewan McGregor explained, the team behind the Obi-Wan Kenobi series are working hard and taking time to improve the already good scripts:

“We start shooting at the very beginning of next year, they’re in pre-production from this summer, there are scripts that I’ve read that are really good, they’re continuing to write on them to make them even better, and we start very early next year.”

Ewan McGregor added that he’s been watching The Mandalorian and other Star Wars projects, trying to keep himself updated on the world Lucasfilm has created since he last played Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, Ewan McGregor stated that he believes it won’t take much to reacquaint himself with Obi-Wan Kenobi once he puts the Jedi robes back on:

“I’m excited about it. I think the last one I shot was in 2003, so it’s been a while. It’ll just be there, I think. Also, I’m reminding myself by watching their new films and The Mandalorian and stuff, I really enjoyed. I keep myself as current as I can with the Lucasfilm world. I don’t think it will take two minutes; I’ll put the cloak back on and I’ll be there, I think.”
