Production on Ezra Miller’s The Flash is not likely to begin until 2021.

Since Ezra Miller’s standalone The Flash film was first announced, the project has experienced numerous setbacks. After two separate directors departed over creative differences, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein were tapped to helm The Flash before exiting themselves following creative conflicts with Ezra Miller over the tone of the film. Fans were once again disheartened when Warner Bros. announced a 2020 start date for production on Fantastic Beasts 3, in which Ezra Miller will reprise his role as Credence Barebone, meaning The Flash standalone would likely be delayed once again.

Now, Variety reports Warner Bros. and DC still have faith in Ezra Miller’s incarnation of The Flash and are still proceeding with the development of the Scarlet Speedster’s solo film. However, Ezra Miller’s commitment to the third Fantastic Beasts film, which begins production in spring 2020, means it is unlikely that production on The Flash film will begin until 2021.

IT director Andy Mushcietti has signed on to direct Ezra Miller’s The Flash from a script penned by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson. Ezra Miller most recently portrayed The Flash in Zack Snyder’s Justice League:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Justice League is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD.
