The release date for the upcoming installment of the Fast Saga, Fast And Furious 10, has been pushed back to the summer of 2023.

The Fast and Furious franchise is one of the most bizarre franchise success stories to hit theaters. The first film, The Fast and the Furious was the film that turned then-unknown Vin Diesel into a star but early on had something of a bad track record. The earlier films in the franchise, while box office successes often received mixed to negative reviews from critics until the release of Fast Five. Following that, the franchise turned into a box office juggernaut with most of its installments turning into worldwide successes, often earning over $1B per installment. The franchise’s latest entry was no different.

Like many other films, Fast and Furious 9, or F9, was delayed due to concerns over the Covid-19 pandemic. Released earlier this year, the film received mixed to positive reviews from critics but became one of the biggest box office success stories of the pandemic era. As of this writing, the film is the 4th highest-grossing film of the year, having earned over $723M worldwide. The next installment was already being planned but now has a new release date.

Originally the film was set to be released on April 7th, 2023. Now, Universal Pictures has pushed the film back to May 19th of the same year. The studio did not give a reason for the delay.

Here is the official synopsis for the franchise’s latest installment, F9: The Fast Saga:

Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, this year’s The Suicide Squad).

F9 sees the return of Justin Lin as director, who helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the series when it transformed into a global blockbuster. The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tblisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.

Directed Justin Lin from a script written by Daniel Casey, Fast and Furious 9 stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Cardi B and Sung Kang, with Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.
