Luke Evans Reveals Helen Mirren’s ‘The Fate of the Furious’ Role

Fast & Furious 6 actor Luke Evans might have just revealed the role that Helen Mirren will play in The Fate of the Furious.

Fast & Furious 6 co-star Luke Evans — who played Owen Shaw, brother of Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, in that film and was last seen in a coma in Furious 7 — has commented on the future of his character in the Fast & Furious franchise. He also might have let it slip which role Helen Mirren, one of the latest additions to the series (alongside Charlize Theron), will be playing in this year’s The Fate of the Furious.

While doing an interview with Yahoo! Movies to promote his turn as Gaston in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, Evans was asked about his character’s fate.

“Well, who knows? I mean, he’s in a coma, so people come around from comas. Who knows? He’s in a military hospital because he’s the most wanted man in the world, but he’s got a very powerful brother, and he’s now got a mum as well, who’s played by Helen Mirren.”

He continued, “But it’ll take some doing to get the world’s most wanted man who’s in an induced coma in a military hospital out.”

We already knew that Helen Mirren had been cast in the film, the eighth in the franchise, but this is the first mention that she will actually be playing the mother of the Shaw brothers. Evans is currently not set to appear in The Fate of the Furious, but there are still two more subsequent Fast & Furious films on the slate for Universal, so perhaps we’ll see a Shaw family reunion before it’s all said and done.

The Fate of the Furious is slated for an April 14, 2017 release.
