There are few roles in cinematic history that are so iconic that an actor and/or actress’ performance as a particular character is so revered, that it is virtually inseparable from that performer’s legacy. One of the quintessential roles reflecting that sentiment is undoubtedly Christopher Reeve as Superman.
On a broad scale, when an individual thinks about Superman, the first image that comes to mind is Reeve in the iconic suit, specifically the image of him in flight. There are fewer images in popular culture that are as iconic as Reeve as Superman taking flight.
In a recent interview, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige gave one of the best compliments he as ever given to one of his Marvel Cinematic Universe actors. In the interview, he specifically praises Chris Evans for his role as Captain America:
“He’s a reluctant star, but I think he’s become—and I’ve said this to him—for as amazing as all of our actors are at embodying these characters, every single one of them, he’s one that reminds me, alongside Christopher Reeve, as just like ‘these are the characters.’”
Kevin Feige’s sentiments indicate that he considers Evans’ performance as Captain America to perfectly embody the spirit of Steve Rogers as represented in the comic books. Plus, him putting him associating Evans’ role with Reeve is one of the greatest compliments any superhero actor would ever want to receive.
What do you think of Kevin Feige’s comments? Do you agree with him that Evans is to Captain America like Reeve is to Superman? What other superhero roles are inseparable from the legacy of an actor and/or actress? Sound off in the comments below.
