‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Breaks Trailer Record Set By ‘The Force Awakens’

Star Wars: The Force Awakens no longer holds the record for most number of views for a trailer within the first 24 hours of release. That record now belongs to…Universal’s Fifty Shades Darker.

Fifty Shades Darker was viewed 114 million times in the first 24 hours of release, beating out The Force Awakens by two million views.

Fifty Shades Darker is the follow-up to the incredibly popular Fifty Shades of GreyDarker once again stars Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele) and Jamie Dornan (Christain Grey) and is based on the novels by E.L. James. Darker arrives in theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day on Feb. 10, 2017, and the final film in this series, Fifty Shades Freed, will be released one year later.

It’s highly doubtful that Darker inspired the reaction that The Force Awakens trailer did when “Chewie…we’re home” was heard for the first time and don’t forget Star Wars fans when a trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII debuts, it might just reclaim that record.

Starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran and Benicio del Toro, Star Wars: Episode VIII opens in theaters on December 15, 2017.
