Originally, Stranger Things executive producer and director Shawn Levy promised in order to maintain the magical storytelling and intimacy that season one possessed, directing would once again be limited to himself and The Duffer Brothers in season two. But it seems the challenge of both writing and directing the 9-episode follow-up has proved to be too awesome.
Entertainment Weekly has announced Finding Dory director Andrew Stanton is coming on board to helm episodes 5 and 6, titled “The Storm” and “The Pollywog”. “Andrew called me out of the blue and said, ‘I love it. I would be honored to be part of it.” Levy told EW.
In addition, Rebecca Thomas (Electrick Children) has been tapped to direct episode 7, “The Secret Cabin”.
Episodes 1 & 2, “MadMax” and “The Boy Who Came Back To Life” are already in the can with The Duffer Brothers at the helm. Levy returned for episodes 3 & 4 “The Pumpkin Patch” and “The Palace”. The Duffer Brothers will shift their attention to writing the remainder of the season, however, they will be back to direct episode 8 “The Brain” as well as episode 9, “The Lost Brother”.
Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Noah Schnapp. The adventure continues in the fall of 1984 as the world is turning upside down.
Season two of Stranger Things hits Netflix this Halloween.
