The orcs of The Second Age!

The Lord Of The Rings The Rings Of Power Comic-Con

The first look at the orcs in Amazon’s upcoming fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings Of Power has been revealed.

The road to Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings Of Power has been a long one. It all started with Amazon buying up the rights to the appendices to J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy magnum opus. Since the year began, the first trailer for the series has been revealed, with the showrunner confirming a five-season plan. Now at last, last we have our first look at the main foot soldiers of the antagonists, the orcs.

In most fantasy stories, Orcs tend to be the go-to creatures that follow the will of some evil overlord. In The Lord of the Rings, they were created by the first dark lord, Melkor, who shaped them from elves. The Orcs, in turn, served, as Melkor’s main foot soldiers and, for a time, disappeared after his fall only to return during The Second Age as Sauron rose to power.

The Orcs Of The Second Age

In a recent interview with IGN, Amazon gave us our first looks at the orcs in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. You can see the full images below:

In the same article, The Lord Of the Rings: The Rings Of Power producer Lindsey Weber discussed some of the differences between these Orcs and the ones we encountered in the Peter Jackson films:

“We spent a lot of time talking about what it would mean to be an Orc in the Second Age. It felt appropriate that their look would be different, part of a wilder, more raw, Second Age, Middle-earth, closer to where the First Age ends. As we meet them, they’re not yet organized into armies, they’re a little more scattered and they’ve been scavenging. So it’s just a different time in their total story.”

Here is the synopsis for the upcoming series:

This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

Amazon Studios is producing The Rings of Power in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are serving as showrunners and executive producers on the series.

The ensemble for the show consists of Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.

The Amazon series will premiere on September 2, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
