‘The Flash’ Season 5 Premiere Referenced A Major DC Comics Hero

The Flash Season 5 Suit 100th Episode Grant Gustin Crisis On Infinite Earths

The fifth season premiere of The Flash finally united Barry and Iris with their daughter Nora, who arrived from the future with a plethora of knowledge on events and characters to come. In fact, Nora revealed that DC Comics hero Ryan Choi, a.k.a. The Atom, was the genius who designed the new Flash costume that she brought with her from the future.

Because Barry’s suit was destroyed in the season 4 finale, the Scarlet Speedster found himself without a form-fitting outfit when the villainous Gridlock arrived. Fortunately, Nora brought a Flash ring with her from the future and it contained a brand new costume for Barry. When Cisco, clearly impressed with the new costume, asked if he was the one who created the suit, Nora replied, “Uh, Ryan Choi, actually.”

DC Comics fans may know that Ryan Choi is the third character to take up the Atom mantle. An Asian-American physics professor at Ivy University, Ryan Choi was the protégé of Ray Palmer, the current Atom who is played by Brandon Routh on Legends of Tomorrow.

Matching wits with The Thinker, who by season’s end had harnessed the powers of all twelve bus metas he created, stretched Team Flash to their limits, but with the help of some new allies, Barry Allen (aka The Flash) and company were able to put a stop to the Enlightenment and save Central City once again. However, with the arrival of Barry and Iris’ speedster daughter, Nora, who arrived from the future admitting to having made a “big mistake,” things are anything but status quo. Will parenthood be the challenge that finally slows The Flash down?

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen / Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon / Vibe, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison “Sherloque” Wells, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Hartley Sawyer as Ralph Dibny / Elongated Man, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Nora West-Allen, and Chris Klein as Cicada.
