The new season of The Flash is less than one month away from premiering on The CW and fans are eager to see how Barry will escape the Speed Force. Now, executive producers Todd Helbing and Andrew Kreisberg have offered fans a preview of the fourth season while also reflecting on the past year of the hit series.

Kreisberg discussed how the season premiere will offer the writers a chance to bring a lighter tone to the show after the dark events of season 3:

“The circumstances of [Barry’s] return and what he’s like when he comes back from this experience is part of the fun and the surprise of the season premiere. […] We’re not gonna ‘out-dark’ ourselves. We really wanted to sort of, like, pivot and sort of lean into fun, and light, and brightness. The title [of the] premiere is actually ‘The Flash Reborn’ and for us, it’s just sort like a little bit of a restart. You know, just diving into more comedy, and more fun, and more brightness, and more excitement.”

Based on Kreisberg’s comments, fans can expect to see Jessica Camacho return as Gypsy at least twice in the early episodes of season 4:

“Gypsy will definitely be back in episode 4.02. […] Episode 4.04 is probably one of my favorite ideas we’ve ever come up with that involves Cisco and Gypsy. I think the fans are gonna die.”

The previous season concluded with Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost leaving Team Flash to rediscover herself. Since then, fans have been wondering if the next season would feature more of Caitlin or her super powered alter-ego. Though Kreisberg was vague, it appears fans of both Caitlin and Killer Frost will be satisfied:

“If you’re a fan of Killer Frost you won’t be disappointed and if you’re a fan of Caitlin Snow, you won’t be disappointed either.”

Kreisberg also explained how the latest adversary for the Scarlet Speedster, The Thinker, will present a new challenge for our heroes:

“We’re positing it as the world’s fastest man versus the world’s fastest mind. It’s been really interesting for us as writers because so much of the previous seasons have been […] about training harder or ‘I have to run faster.’ But he’s up against a villain this season that he can’t outrun, it’s somebody that he has to outthink and it’s gonna take him, and Cisco, and Caitlin, and few other surprise people to be able to get one step ahead of The Thinker.”

Running up against an evil time remnant version of yourself is something no one should ever have to do, but that’s exactly what faced Barry Allen (aka The Flash) as he fought to save the life of fiancée Iris West from the God of Speed known as Savitar. Barry’s victory was short-lived, however, as an unbalanced Speed Force began to wreak havoc on Central City, forcing Barry to sacrifice himself for the greater good. With The Fastest Man Alive now trapped inside an extra-dimensional energy, and unknown dangers lurking in the shadows, it will be up to Team Flash to free Barry from his own personal Hell.

The Flash season 4 will premiere on Tuesday, October 10 at 8:00 PM ET on The CW.
