‘The Flash’ Star Keiynan Lonsdale Addresses His Exit From The Arrowverse

Wally West actor Keiynan Lonsdale addresses Kid Flash's departure from The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow in the Arrowverse.

Wally West is a curious case in the Arrowverse. While a speedster, Kid Flash didn’t really receive as much prominence as one would expect him to receive as a supporting player on The Flash. When Wally moved over full-time to Legends of Tomorrow as a series regular, many hoped that, like John Constantine, Wally would wind up as a regular going forward, or at least for the following season. However, it’s been revealed recently that actor Keiynan Lonsdale would not be returning not just from Legends of Tomorrow, but not much, if at all, on The Flash as well.

At least, not full time. While in Melbourne, Australia for the Oz Comic-Con, Keiynan Lonsdale stopped by The Project television show to address his slight departure from the Arrowverse. He noted that after the initial announcement, he needed to assure fans that this was his idea to take a step back from the long filming schedule.

“I’m not coming back full-time, but I’ll still be like in the DC universe, just not like, I won’t be filming ten months of the year every year. It got announced and then I was like, I’ve got to make sure that people know it was my decision so that no one got too angry. I hope that everyone’s not too sad about missing Wally.”

Lonsdale previously took to social media to share with fans that Kid Flash would not be on either The Flash or Legends of Tomorrow in their upcoming seasons, but — as is often the case with comic book-related news — didn’t close the door on returning down the line. In addition, Keiynan Lonsdale is still set to appear in the Season Five premiere of The Flash, so perhaps that will give fans an explanation as to where Wally West will end up going forward in the Arrowverse.

As is, though, it is still a bit upsetting that Kid Flash will not be returning at least to Legends of Tomorrow. Wally brought an amount of energy to the role not seen often on The Flash, even bringing in elements of Kid Flash from Young Justice with him getting into the idea of snagging “souvenirs” from each mission.

What do you think of Keiynan Lonsdale’s departure from the Arrowverse? Are you sad to see Wally West leaving both The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow? And would you like to see him return in the Arrowverse at some point? Let us know in the comments below.

The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow both air on The CW and will be returning this fall. Legends of Tomorrow will be moving to Monday nights at 8 pm, while The Flash will maintain its 8 pm time slot on Tuesdays.
