‘The Flash’ References Two Popular Marvel Characters In Episode 5×02

Flash Grant Gustin CW DC Comics MarvelIn the latest episode of The CW’s hit Arrowverse series The Flash, references to two Marvel Comics characters were dropped, giving some interesting nods specifically to Ghost Rider and Thor.

Warning: The following article contains mild spoilers for episode 5×02 of The Flash.

The episode entitled “Blocked” dropped these two amusing references to Ghost Rider and Thor. In regards to Ghost Rider, the scene in question involves Cicada (Chris Klein) battling with Team Flash. He temporarily halted the powers of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) and Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer) with his lightning daggers. Team Flash was questioning about whether or not their powers were truly gone, to which Cicada replied, “Negative, Ghost Rider.”

The Thor reference comes in when Cisco tries to explain how Cicada managed to succeed in his efforts to Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). Cisco specifically compares Cicada’s ability to control his lightning daggers to how Thor can control his hammer, Mjolnir.

Obviously, these references are nothing more than just a fun shout-out to Marvel and their roster of characters. Also, it is worth noting that Ghost Rider and Thor have known stories that go beyond their popularity within the Marvel universe. After all, Thor is the God of Thunder in Norse mythology.
