Black Widow star Florence Pugh reacted to the idea that the film will hand over Scarlett Johansson’s mantle in the MCU.
With Black Widow‘s release on the horizon, the common idea among fans is that Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova will take over the hero’s mantle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe much like she does in the comics. And in a recent interview with Total Film, Florence Pugh briefly discussed the idea. Natasha Romanoff herself, Scarlett Johansson, also praised the Pugh’s performance, explaining that she’s “a very special person” who will go far in her career.
“She has a really beautiful career ahead of her. She’s a very special person. Her character and her performance is so beloved.”
But when the topic of Yelena taking over the Black Widow mantle in the film, Florence Pugh noted that the sole intention of the film is not to rush Natasha Romanoff out of the MCU. Even though most fans are expecting to see her hand over the role over to her sister from the Red Room. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how Black Widow handles Natasha’s legacy when we know where she ends up in Avengers: Endgame. Take a look at Florence Pugh discussing the film below.
“Even though that’s obviously where everybody wants to go and wants to think about – to think about what’s next – this film never really felt like that was what it was trying to underline,”
