Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe (Precious, American Horror Story) reveals that she’d be up for a role in a superhero movie, specifically naming Suicide Squad‘s Amanda Waller as an example she’d like to play if that role is ever recast. She also made a pair of joking suggestions at two iconic characters she could take a shot at.
Sidibe recently spoke with Variety, who briefly talked to her about superhero movies and if she would be interested in joining one eventually. The actress seems to be a little more inclined to the DC Comics Universe than the Marvel Universe, if her serious suggestion and her two non-serious ones (Superman and Batman) are of any indication:
“I really like Amanda Waller. She’s a lawyer but she can clearly stretch herself… also, I want to fly, so why can’t I play Superman? Batman doesn’t have any superpowers. He’s not an alien, he’s a straight up human who happens to be rich. He’s like Super Privileged Man. He’s like White Privilege Man. But he’s got all these tools, and a super dark sense of being. He’s such a creep, and I feel I’m Batman because I’m a creep.”
Sidibe was more or less having a lot of fun with her answers, but it does seem like she’d have the ability to take on the role of Amanda Waller. That being said, it’s not likely that Viola Davis would part with the role anytime soon. Perhaps Sidibe would have an easier shot at it through one of DC’s television properties.
