The final two episodes of the year for Game of Thrones are upon us and they promise to be massive. First up is Sunday’s ninth episode “Battle of the Bastards” featuring the titular showdown between the armies of noble Jon Snow and evil Ramsay Bolton for control of Winterfell and the North. Today saw EW release a eight cool pictures from the show’s biggest battle to date, eclipsing the likes of “Blackwater,” “The Watchers on the Wall” and “Hardhome.” Miguel Sapochnik, who directed “Hardhome,” returns for this episode and the finale.
It’s a Thrones buffet, complete with a brooding Jon Snow, another of Sansa joining Jon in brooding, a brooding Jon Snow facing a cavalry charge, a decidedly-not brooding Tormund in the midst of battle, a cool overview of the Bolton forces, a shot of Ramsay with them. Another has Davos on horseback and finally we get a taste of the incoming Wun Wun action.
The episode is followed by the season finale on June 26, “The Winds of Winter.” Titled after the as-yet-unpublished sixth book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, it is the series’ longest episode at 69 minutes. HBO is not releasing synopses for either “Battle of the Bastards” or the finale, in the latest effort of secrecy and spoiler-proofing.
