Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams has admitted that she began to resent her character Arya Stark as she got older.
One of Game of Thrones‘ most compelling characters was Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark. A fun, tomboyish character who resented her mother and sister for their more traditional tastes and values, her character arguably had one of the roughest arcs in the series. By the time the show ended, Arya was a well-trained assassin who was arguably the most deadly member of the Stark family.
While speaking to GQ UK, Maisie Williams opened up about her time as Arya Stark in Game of Thrones. She makes it clear that she loved her time on the show to the point where she doesn’t even want to say she misses it due to the negative emotional association:
“Can I say none of it? I don’t think it’s healthy [to miss it], because I loved it. I look at it so fondly, and I look at it with such pride. But why would I want to make myself feel sad about the greatest thing that ever happened to me? I don’t want to associate that with feelings of pain.”
Maisie Williams did admit, however, that she felt a degree of resentment towards her character, Arya Stark because of how it kept her from expressing herself:
“I think that when I started becoming a woman, I resented Arya because I couldn’t express who I was becoming. And then I also resented my body, because it wasn’t aligned with the piece of me that the world celebrated.”
Here is the synopsis for the Game of Thrones spin-off series:

Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan J. Condal serve as co-showrunners on House of the Dragon and are executive producing alongside George R. R. Martin. The series features a star-studded cast that includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno.
