‘Game of Thrones’ Star Sean Bean Now Rejecting Roles Where His Character Dies

Sean Bean Game of Thrones

Sean Bean, known to many for his roles in epics such as Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones now rejects roles in which his character gets killed off.

Many fans are aware of the eerie fact that in much of his 35 years as an actor, Sean Bean’s character in much of his filmography is killed off. The fact that Sean Bean’s character has been killed off in at least 21 different projects has left some fans joking that just the mere addition of Sean Bean to any cast of a film/TV series is a spoiler.

Well, Sean Bean is self-aware about this fact. So much so that he actively searches for roles in which his character will survive. Sean Bean revealed as such:

“I’ve turned down stuff. I’ve said, ‘They know my character’s going to die because I’m in it!’

I just had to cut that out and start surviving, otherwise it was all a bit predictable.

I did do one job and they said, ‘We’re going to kill you’, and I was like, ‘Oh no!’ and then they said, ‘Well, can we injure you badly?’ and I was like, ‘OK, so long as I stay alive this time.'”

Sean Bean famously portrayed the role of Eddard “Ned” Stark in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Obviously, Sean Bean was killed off at the end of the ninth episode of the first season after King Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) ordered for his beheading.

Luckily for Sean Bean, his role in the upcoming BBC1 war drama World On Fire survives:

“I survive in World On Fire, I’m at home in Manchester and I’m safe.”
