It seems that DC writer Geoff Johns wants to see a lot more of Black Manta after Aquaman.
During a recent interview, the prolific DC writer talked about Aquaman and the storylines of the various characters. One of the more noteworthy discussions came in the form of Black Manta. In it Geoff Johns talked a bit about how you couldn’t do an Aquaman movie without the iconic villain:
“It’s impossible. It’s like doing a Batman movie without the Batmobile. You just shouldn’t do it. Some people were like, you can’t do the big helmet. It’s like saying Joker without the smile!”
He then talked about how the director, James Wan, texted him in a panic about how Black Manta’s story would be too big for the film.
“There was a moment when the script was really going and James texted me or emailed me, and said Black Manta’s story may be too big for this movie. What do you think? And I didn’t reply, I just went to his office and I said, ‘Black Manta has to be in the movie.’ He was like, ‘I know!!!’”
Later on, he mentioned that he wanted to see a Black Manta film, thinking it would be cool:
“There should be a Black Manta movie. That’d be a cool movie.”
From the look of things, Geoff Johns is a big fan of the Aquaman villain.
What did you all make of Geoff Johns’ comments? Could the film have been made without Black Manta? Since they’re already doing a Joker film, could the iconic Aquaman antagonist get his own movie? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
