George Miller Gives A New Update On The Next ‘Mad Max’ Film

George Miller offered a new update on the status of his next entry in the Mad Max film series.

George Miller made his feature film directorial debut with 1979’s Max Mad, a dystopian action thriller starring Mel Gibson as the titular Main Force Patrol officer. Since then, George Miller has helmed three sequels to the film, with the most recent being 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

George Miller’s latest Mad Max film, which starred Tom Hardy as the title character and introduced Charlize Theron’s Furiosa, received acclaim and even earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Since then, fans have been eager to see a new Mad Max film and George Miller recently told Deadline that a sequel is currently in preparation mode:

“I’m not done with the Mad Max story and I think you have to be a multi-tasker and there’s certainly another Mad Max coming down the pike after this. We’re in preparation on that as well. It’s an interesting question, the idea of multi-tasking. I discuss this with other filmmakers and I think what happens to me is that when you’re working on one thing, and you get so distracted and focused on that one thing, it’s like a creative holiday to focus on the other one for a bit. It helps you achieve that objectivity, to look at the thing afresh each time and say, I thought I was doing this, but it doesn’t seem to be the case now.”

Here is the official synopsis for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road:

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
