George Miller says that he still has plans to do a Mad Max: Fury Road sequel with Tom Hardy.
In 2015, Warner Bros. Pictures released the long-awaited Mad Max: Fury Road. George Miller’s fourth entry in his action franchise that now starred Tom Hardy, who replaced Mel Gibson in the titular role, was universally acclaimed, and widely considered to be not just one of the best action films of the century, but of all-time. So much so, that the film was even nominated for 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, taking home six.
At the moment, George Miller is currently developing a prequel to Fury Road, Furiosa. Anya Taylor-Joy is set to play the younger version of the titular heroine, who was introduced in the previous film and portrayed by Charlize Theron in one of her most-acclaimed roles to date. Although a prequel is on the way, Miller mentioned that he is still looking to bring fans a sequel, and although Tom Hardy isn’t confirmed to return, it’s possible we will be revisiting Mad Max again soon:
“We do have another story but it’s still not fully evolved We’ll see further down the chain.”
Mad Max: The Wasteland coming soon?
Whether or not we see Tom Hardy return to the role of Mad Max, the fact that George Miller is looking to return to the franchise at all with the upcoming Furiosa prequel is exciting. Who knows? Perhaps we will see a tease regarding the future of the franchise beyond this prequel, and we will finally get a long-awaited sequel to one of the best action films ever made.
Here is the official synopsis for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road:
