Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman have congratulated Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard on wrapping the second season of the Netflix smash hit series.
Wolfhard returned to his trailer after filming last night to discover a surprise gift from both the star and the director for Ghostbusters as they expressed their excitement to see the influence the iconic film will have on the new season of the ’80s homage.
As we have already seen, the kids are dressing as the Ghostbusters for Halloween in season two which takes place in the fall of 1984 following the summer that Ghostbusters was originally released. It’s unclear what influence other than the costumes the film will have in the new season but we can expect plenty more ’80s references as 1984 was a seminal year for ’80s culture in entertainment. The summer of 1984 saw not just the release of Ghostbusters but several other iconic ’80s films including The Terminator, Gremlins, The Karate Kid, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom — the latter of which The Duffer Brothers have already cited as a touchstone for the follow-up.
The gift itself is somewhat premature though, as it is expected that production on the second season of the series will not complete for another two weeks.
Stranger Things 2 stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Noah Schnapp. The series has also added Brett Gelman (Jobs), Will Chase (Nashville), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers), Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen, and broadway star Sadie Sink.
The adventure continues in the fall of 1984 as the world is turning upside down. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Stranger Things as we learn it.
