Fan excited for the return of Ernie Hudson in the Jason Reitman helmed Ghostbusters sequel may be a little disappointed.
Within days after a teaser trailer for a new Ghostbusters film from director Jason Reitman (son of the original film director’s Ivan Reitman) was dropped, speculation abounded like ghosts from out of a proton pack. Fortunately, we had some details on this film: the film’s protagonists would be teenagers, and it would be set in the same universe as the first two films. In fact, rumor has it that these teenagers might be the offspring of the original team.
As the film is starting to take shape, many have been wondering if the original cast has been approached yet to reprise their roles, if this film is supposed to take place in the same universe. Well you can count Ernie Hudson, who played the Ghostbusters’ straight man Winston Zeddemore, as one of those who hasn’t been approached at the moment. The actor had this to say, courtesy of an interview on The Johnny Dare Morning Show:
“I don’t know. Nobody has approached me with a contract. I think the Ghostbusters fans have been wanting [a “passing of the torch”] dynamic to happen, so I know whatever happens is going to be in that tradition… I’m excited about that. I’d be more excited if they called me and offered me a job, but no matter what happens the fact that they’re doing it is really cool.”
Fortunately, Ernie Hudson is in the know on who’s involved with the film:
“[Original director] Ivan Reitman is there [as a producer] and everybody is in. Now whether the studio will do it, I’m the guy who sits by the phone and waits for the call. So if they call, I’ll answer. If not, I’ve got other stuff that I’m doing.”
It sure wouldn’t be Ghostbusters without Winston. Here’s hoping Ernie Hudson does get that call, at some point, along with the rest of the cast (aside from Ego Spengler actor and co-writer Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014). As always, we’ll keep you posted on anything we hear.
What do you think of his comments? Would you like to see Ernie Hudson return for the sequel? Do you even want the Jason Reitman helmed sequel to happen? Let us know in the comments!!
Directed by Jason Reitman from a script he co-wrote with Poltergeist remake director Gil Kena, the new Ghostbusters project will begin filming in the coming months.
The Untitled Ghostbusters Sequel is scheduled to be released in theaters in 2020.
