Top Gun Maverick Glenn Powell Cyclops X-Men Marvel MCU

Top Gun: Maverick‘s Glen Powell recently responded to the rumors he is set to appear as Cyclops in Marvel’s reboot of the X-Men film franchise.

Glen Powell plays Hangman in the long-awaited Top Gun sequel that hit theaters earlier this year. With the film rights to the X-Men now back at Marvel Studios, a new X-Men movie is expected to be in the works and Powell’s name has been mentioned in connection to the team’s leader, Cyclops.

In a recent interview for Top Gun: Maverick, Powell was asked about the Cyclops rumors and he was able to shed some light on the situation.

Is Glenn Powell Marvel’s Cyclops?

Speaking to Variety about Top Gun: Maverick, Glenn Powell offered a definitive answer on whether there is any truth to the Cyclops rumors.

When asked if he would be playing Cyclops in Marvel’s X-Men reboot, Powell decisively denied the rumors. The actor revealed there has been no communication between him and Marvel Studios and he is not sure how the rumor came about.

Powell said of the Cyclops speculation:

“Before Comic-Con, everybody was like, ‘Dude, are you Cyclops?’ No, I’m not. Nobody has called me. I don’t even have one contact info for Marvel, so I have no idea what people are talking about.”

As of yet, there has been no official word from Marvel on when an MCU X-Men reboot might arrive. With nothing yet confirmed, it’s possible the casting process for Marvel’s merry band of mutants hasn’t even started yet. In any case, it appears there was no truth to speculation over Glenn Powell gearing up to play Scott Summers.

Here is the synopsis for Glenn Powell’s latest film, Top Gun: Maverick:

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.” Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski from a script written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie, based on a story by Peter Craig and Justin Marks, Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer.
