‘Alien: Covenant’: Gory & Brutal Footage Description

Earlier this month, at the 2017 FOX Filmmakers Showcase, I was treated to several bits of Alien: Covenant footage. What I saw blew me away and looked to be a great return to the original two films after the flop of Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus.

The first bit of footage was mainly just a conversation between the crew members of the Covenant ship as they were approaching the planet, the clip ends with the crew members sending a scout ship to the planet ahead of the passengers. The second clip however, was what truly got me and the rest of the press in attendance hooked.

The footage opened with the scout ship landed on the planet. Something seems to have gone wrong, two groups are escorting injured members back to the ship. The first group simply consists of two people, a woman and the injured man. The second group is much larger, and consists of Michael Fassbender’s character, Walter, Katherine Waterston’s character, Daniels, and several others including another injured man. The first group arrives at the ship, greeted by the woman on board. The man is brought to the med-bay and seems truly ill. His shirt is removed to reveal a back cut up around the spine. The woman who had been escorting him moves to touch his back and is pricked by spikes which suddenly protrude from him. The woman who had been on board goes to get a weapon and closes the med-bay door, while the man’s spine and brain completely fall out from his back.

The woman who went to get a weapon also calls for her other crewmates, both on the planet and still in space for help. She screams for the rest of the crew on the planet to get on board with the other sick member immediately. The other group, trudging through a field, begins running toward the ship faster. Meanwhile, a small white Neomorph crawls out of the dead man’s back and begins crawling toward the woman locked inside the medbay, she begins kicking at it which seems to work at first. Sadly, as the small Neomorph fully forms itself, it over takes the woman now cowering on the floor in the corner. The alien climbs on top of her and begins slashing into her stomach.

The second woman returns with a weapon and sees the Neomorph on top of the woman tearing her apart. She opens the med-bay door to shoot the Neomorph, but misses several times. She is barely able to escape the med-bay and lock the door before the Neomorph gets out as well. Unfortunately, the Neomorph breaks through the window of the door and chases her down the ship’s hallway. She is chased to the storage compartment, where she sees the Neomorph climbing around the pipes on the ceiling. She begins engaging the Neomorph once more with her shotgun. She shoots multiple times with the shotgun, but continues to miss the alien. Her shooting however, seems to have punctured the spaceship’s gas tank and the ship is about to explode. She is caught in the explosion, but the Neomorph escapes the ship and scurries into the tall grass field.

We cut to the other group and see the scout ship explode in grand fashion. Daniels and another crewmate were closest to the ship when the explosion occurred, and Daniels has to tackle the other person to prevent them from running into the explosion. The other tailing crew members, including Walter, are now having to deal with their sick member as he begins seizing on the group. His spine also opens up and the Neomorph crawls out and runs away into the field.

The scene on the ship was incredibly tense and gruesome, and even Waterston herself was startled watching it– as this was the first time she had seen any remotely finished footage.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise.  The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world.  When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Alien: Covenant hits theaters on May 19th, 2017.
