‘Gotham’: Erin Richards Thinks A Baby Batgirl Appearance Is Possible

Gotham FOX Batman

The DC television series Gotham showcases plenty of teases for the broader world of the Batman during Bruce Wayne’s younger years before he wears the cowl. One of the characters that fans have been wanting to see be teased is Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl.

Barbara  is the daughter of Jim Gordon and also the daughter of Barbara Kean based on the DC Post-Crisis continuity. She takes the mantle of Batgirl as she grows up. In previous incarnations, she was portrayed by Yvonne Craig in the 1960’s Batman television series and another version was portrayed by Alicia Silverstone in the infamous Batman and Robin. In that film, Silverstone played Barbara Wilson – unrelated to the Gordon family.

Recently at San Diego Comic-Con, Erin Richards (Barbara Kean) expressed optimism regarding a future appearance of Batgirl as a baby in the series:

“I think it’s still possible. I think that this version of Barbara that we’ll see will actually be the most surprising to Jim as a development. I think he might be taken aback by how she’s turned out. And not necessarily in a bad way.”

An appearance from Batgirl as a baby would definitely excite fans who want to see more of the Batman mythology showcased in Gotham.

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as Detective Jim Gordon, Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Morena Baccarin as Dr. Leslie Thompkins, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/The Riddler, Carmen Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan, Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox, Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean, Maggie Geha as Ivy Pepper, Benedict Samuel as Jervis Tetch/The Mad Hatter and Michael Chiklis as Captain Nathaniel Barnes. Here is the official synopsis for Season 4:

“Gotham’s origin story continues to unfold, and as the show enters its fourth season, the stakes will be higher than ever! With the Court of Owls decimated, the aftermath of the Tetch virus crippling the city, and every (surviving) villain in Gotham’s underworld jockeying for power, Jim Gordon and the GCPD will have their hands full. And that’s just the beginning! What threat does Ra’s al Ghul pose, and will Penguin regain his title as the King of Gotham? What new villains are in store for season four, and what does Bruce Wayne’s season finale reveal mean for Gotham City — and his ultimate destiny?”
