‘Gotham’: Could Man-Bat Possibly Show Up One Day?

Gotham has introduced several of the famous Batman villains from the DC Comics universe, with The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Edward Nygma/The Future Riddler (Cory Michael Smith), Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong) and are introducing several more in the third season which is premiering tonight. However there are probably some Batman villains that we will never see on the show, due to the timeline as it’s telling Bruce Wayne’s early years, and perhaps due to practical reasons.

Last year, executive producer John Stephens said in an interview with Blastr when asked what Batman villains could be coming in the future, that someone like the Man-Bat, will never be introduced on the show. Here is what he said:

“There’s some [villains] you’re never going to see — you’re never going to see Man-Bat. That one might break the reality of the show we’ve established.”

However, a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, is where things get quite interesting. Executive producer Ken Woodruff said during that interview

“The last season was really an attempt to say, this is how supervillains exist; this is why. They didn’t just pop into being, they were birthed out of Indian Hill and some of the things that were going on in the city at the time. That was always the goal. And how it changes the show going forward is that we can still always pull from that Carmine Falcone mobster, more gritty, noir-ish world to tell stories, but we can also have this new element of Man Bat or Firefly or Mr. Freeze and the technology that surrounds that.”

While it may not be 100% a definitive “Man-Bat is coming this season”, it definitely seems like that the character is aimed to be introduced one day and it would make sense to do it this season due to the monster aspect of Season 3. We might meet him in human form, Kirk Langstrom who has appeared in animation several times as well as in video games in his batish form.
