‘Gotham’ Season 3 Adds ‘The Walking Dead’s Benedict Samuel As Mad Hatter

Gotham Mad Hatter

We have known for a while that Gotham would be adding one of Batman’s legendary rogues, the Mad Hatter, to the series and the day has finally arrived as TV Line revealed today that Benedict Samuel, best known for his work on The Walking Dead, has been cast as  Jervis Tetch. This will be the character’s live-action debut from the comic books and he will be a series regular. Here’s how Warner Bros. TV is describing the show’s take on the character.

“Tetch a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness. He arrives in Gotham with an unwavering desire to find his sister, Alice, a young woman who went missing in the city years ago. It is anyone’s guess just how far down the rabbit hole he’s willing to go in order to find her.”

More details on Tetch’s arc on the series should be revealed at their panel that is happening at San Diego Comic-Con this week on Saturday, July 23.

“2:10–3:00 p.m. Gotham Special Video Presentation and Q&A — Gotham’s origin story continues to unfold, and as the show enters its third season, the stakes will be higher than ever! Super Villains are continuing to push Gotham City toward the brink, and while Jim Gordon remains at the forefront of the fight against crime in this dangerously corrupt city, how far will he go to save Gotham? Throughout season two, Gordon’s moral compass wavered more than ever, creating both personal and professional dilemmas in his life as villains emerged from the city’s darkest places, including Arkham Asylum’s secret experimental lab, Indian Hill. Bruce Wayne also began to unravel some of Gotham City’s — and his family’s — deepest secrets, leading him to discover that Wayne Enterprises could be behind some very dangerous schemes poised to tear the city apart. Be among the first to see what’s in store for season three as Gotham returns to Comic-Con with a special video presentation, followed by a Q&A with series stars and producers. From Warner Bros. Television and based on characters from DC, Gotham returns September 19 with all-new episodes airing Mondays at 8/7c on FOX. Gotham: The Complete Second Season will be available on Blu-ray™ and DVD on August 16. Not only is this great news, but it’s the least of the great news about DCTV, if the latest rumors are true.

    • Joey Wabi-Sabi

Batwoman…..Barbara Gordon’s Oracle….possible Constantine revival?? Oh man please let all the rumors be true!! I’m most excited for more Constantine I think. Even if it’s not a full revival of his own show, I’ll be happy if he’s just a regular on one of the current shows.

      • SAMURAI36

        Precisely this!!

I’m most excited about Constantine as well. I’m still a little salty that NBC cancelled his show. And if the rumors are to be believed, then there’s still hope for his show returning, as the word is, CW wants a DCTV show on 5 days a week, at the 8PM time slot.

This would effectively put DCTV on the air almost 7 days a week, with some instances being on 2-3 times a night.

I say almost, because Preacher is on Sunday nights, even though it airs during the summer season. Same with Powerless, at least for the time being. But that’s still a good thing, because that puts DCTV on the air all year long.

  • Joey Wabi-Sabi

Wow that is some pretty perfect casting right there. His performance on TWD was absolutely chilling and terrifying. He will make a great Mad Hatter.

    • H.I McDunnough

He was terrifying on Walking Dead. If Gotham will just slow it down and focus on one or two villains per season they could really give them fleshed out backstorys. This is perfect casting and I hope they utilize him in a major story arc.
