Grant Gustin’s The Flash is coming to an end on The CW, as the network has announced that the show’s ninth season will also be its last.

According to The CW, Grant Gustin’s The Flash is headed back into production, with an official start date set for sometime next month. The show’s ninth season will wrap up the series with 13 episodes.

“Nine seasons! Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humor, and spectacle. And now Barry Allen has reached the starting gate for his last race. So many amazing people have given their talents, time, and love to bring this wonderful show to life each week,” said executive producer Eric Wallace in a statement. “So, as we get ready to honor the show’s incredible legacy with our exciting final chapter, I want to say thank you to our phenomenal cast, writers, producers, and crew over the years who helped make ‘The Flash’ such an unforgettable experience for audiences around the world.“

The Flash’s history on The CW

The Flash premiered its first episode all the way back in October 2014. It was created after Grant Gustin had a two-episode guest arc as Barry Allen on the second season of Arrow. It’s been one of The CW’s popular projects since its debut on the network, with its latest season bringing in more than 1.03 million viewers.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton.
