A concept artist has revealed some of his work for a character cut from the final version of the 2011 Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds.
The Green Lantern movie came out in 2011, two years before Man of Steel started the DC Extended Universe. The film was met with negative reception, with audiences and critics alike hating the movie. Here’s some more #greenlantern work. This character was cut from the film. She was a fallen Green Lantern that had become infected by Parallax. If I remember correctly Parallax was going to take over her body and attack Abin Sur, delivering the mortal wound that would eventually kill him and free up the ring for Hal Jordan. #haljordan #abinsur #greenlanternmovie #dc #conceptart #creaturedesign
The nixed character is a fallen Green Lantern that was infected by Parallax. It sounds like originally, Parallax was going to infect this lantern and take over her body and attack Abin Sur, freeing up the ring for Hal Jordan. We could’ve seen a cinematic yellow lantern before Sinestro.
Although Green Lantern had a mid-credits scene, the sequel was scrapped. Now, Warner Bros. is working on The Green Lantern Corps for the DCEU. This movie will serve as a reboot of the Green Lantern franchise and will erase the Ryan Reynolds version from continuity.
No cast has been revealed for the Green Lantern Corps film, nor has a director been announced. Fans have suggested many actors to star as Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Tom Cruise, Idris Elba, and Michael B Jordan have been some of the fan-favorites.
What do you think about this concept art? Do you think involving this lantern could’ve changed Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern movie for the better? Let us know what you think down in comments!
Warner Bros. is currently developing a Green Lantern Corps film with Geoff Johns on board as a writer and producer. Details on Green Lantern Corps are currently under wraps, though the project will draw inspiration from Johns’ work on the New 52 Green Lantern comics with both Hal Jordan and John Stewart set to appear in the film.
Green Lantern Corps is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. The list also includes The Batman, The Flash, The Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, Nightwing, Supergirl and New Gods.
