Concept artist Jerad S. Marantz revealed an unused design for the Guardians in Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern.

In DC Comics lore, the Guardians of the Universe are a fictional race of immortal extraterrestrials who founded and lead the Green Lantern Corps. In the Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds, the Guardians retain their distinctive blue skin and white hair, but multiple designs for the characters were considered in the pre-production stage.

Now, Jerad S. Marantz has taken to his official Instagram account to share one of the concept designs for the Guardians in Green Lantern. As Jerad S. Marantz notes in the caption, this was one of the few Guardian designs that were not featured in the final version of the Ryan Reynolds film.

Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern was released to poor reviews and bombed at the box office, prompting Warner Bros. to cancel further plans for the character. Now, Green Lantern is set to be rebooted with a new actor succeeding Ryan Reynolds in the role.

Green Lantern Corps is currently in development film with Geoff Johns on board as a writer and producer. Details on Green Lantern Corps are currently under wraps, though the project will draw inspiration from Geoff Johns’ work on the New 52 Green Lantern comics with both Hal Jordan and John Stewart set to appear in the film.

Green Lantern Corps is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Batman, The Flash standalone film, Black Adam, Shazam 2, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.

Stay tuned for more updates on the future of Green Lantern and the DC Extended Universe.
